Green Cargo, Sweden’s largest rail freight carrier, will replace TRAXX locomotives used for traffic from Swedish Malmö to German Maschen with ten Vectron locomotives leased from two different leasing companies.

From 2024 onwards, the Green Cargo traffic between Malmö and the German marshalling yard in Maschen just south of Hamburg will get new motive power. The current six TRAXX locomotives used for this traffic will be withdrawn inside Sweden and replaced by six corridor Siemens Mobility Vectron locomotives. The remaining four locomotives will be used across the Skåne region in Sweden until the traffic grows enough for all ten locomotives to be used on the Sweden – Denmark – Germany corridor.

Vectrons will be leased from two major leasing companies in Europe, both recently getting new batches of these locomotives: Five will be leased from Alpha Trains and five from Akiem. The first locomotive, leased from Alpha Trains, was already transferred to Sweden and will be used in existing traffic between Malmö and Trelleborg for training during autumn.
