The Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (Mitma) in Spain has announced a development in the transformation of Valladolid into a freight transport and innovation hub. Mitma has called for tenders, following the approval of the project by the Board of Directors of Adif, for the construction of the new Valladolid Railway Complex. With an estimated investment of 71.8 million Euro, this venture is poised to revolutionize rail traffic while generating new urban spaces within the region.
As part of the wider project to improve rail connectivity and encourage innovation, the Valladolid Railway Complex will be linked to the new Eastern Bypass. The complex's extensive infrastructure will include a freight terminal, the Redalsa center, a track technology center, and a maintenance base. These essential components form the basis of Valladolid's railway redevelopment initiative, which has already seen the recent tendering of the track laying and electrification of the bypass.
At the heart of the Valladolid Railway Complex lies the construction of the new freight terminal, which will consolidate the operations of La Esperanza and Argales facilities. Spanning an impressive 230,000 square meters (m2), the terminal will feature a technical facility comprising seven tracks, each extending over 750 meters for efficient train reception and dispatch. Other amenities include a dedicated area for container loading, unloading, and storage, a management building, vehicle parking zones, and a logistics expansion area.
The newly proposed Valladolid Railway Complex marks the second phase of the transformative project, which aims to position Valladolid as a key hub for freight transport, railway technology, and innovation. Key features of the project include the construction of a state-of-the-art freight terminal, which will be seamlessly integrated into the network of strategic intermodal hubs. In addition, the complex will house a railway technology center and a maintenance base.
