In mid-June 2023, Titagarh Firema announced the launch of their new business unit dedicated to producing freight wagons for intermodal, industrial and niche applications. So far, Titagarh Firema has only made passenger rail rolling stock in Italy. Still, following the success of its Indian mother company in rail freight wagons and with high demand for intermodal wagons, it has broadened its portfolio. It will be based on flat 40’, 45’, 60’, and 90’ intermodal wagons, and they will be produced in a manufacturing plant in Caserta, just north of Napoli.
On 26.6.2023, the rolling stock manufacturer also announced its first customer for the new product. It will be GCF GENERALE COSTRUZIONI FERROVIARIE SPA, a railway construction company. GCF will get 36 wagons for intermodal and special use, with delivery by August 2024.
