CER Cargo Group, which operates across multiple Central, Eastern, and Southern European markets, was selected as the top bidder.

The ownership of Austrian rail freight operator WLC is changing, following its acquisition by Hungary-based CER Cargo Group. The agreement comes after Wiener Lokalbahnen (WLB) and parent company Wiener Stadtwerke launched an open tender process in May 2025, seeking a new partner for WLC.

The transaction, subject to completion by the end of 2025, involves full transfer of ownership from Wiener Lokalbahnen to CER Cargo Group.

WLC, active in both intermodal and conventional freight traffic, will become part of CER's expanding European operations. The Hungarian group considers WLC a fit for its activities in Austria and Germany. The planned integration follows CER's recent moves to increase its presence in the Austrian market, including the establishment of an Austrian subsidiary in 2024.
