ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) and European Rail Rent (ERR) have extended their cooperation agreement concerning the continued leasing of 500 Shimmns wagons.

The wagons are primarily used for transporting coiled steel and metal strip products. The Shimmns type is specifically adapted for this cargo, offering covered protection and compatibility with steel industry logistics requirements. According to both companies, the leased fleet is assigned to regular services for clients across Austria and other European markets.

The agreement builds on a longstanding partnership between RCG and ERR. Besides Shimmns wagons, RCG also utilises other wagon types from ERR's portfolio, including tank wagons, container flats, open and bulk freight wagons, and special-purpose equipment for transporting mineral oil products.

The continued use of this fleet reflects ongoing demand from the steel sector for dedicated rolling stock that meets sector-specific loading and handling needs. Rail remains a frequently used mode of transport for steel coils, particularly where sustainability standards or modal shift policies require low-emission alternatives to road-based logistics.

No changes to the technical configuration or fleet size have been announced as part of the contract extension. The wagons will remain part of RCG's active operations under the existing leasing framework provided by ERR.
