Swiss wagon leasing company MFD Rail has secured a deal to supply the first batch of over 100 intermodal wagons to Rail Cargo Austria (RCA).
Rail Cargo Austria, a subsidiary of ÖBB, made the official announcement through the Official Journal of the European Union. The framework agreement includes several contractors alongside MFD Rail, such as ERR European Rail Rent, Ermewa, GATX Rail Austria, VTG Rail Europe, and Touax Rail. This setup allows RCA flexibility in sourcing wagons of the Sgns and Sgnss types over a specified period.
The agreement does not bind the client to a fixed lease but establishes a two-year fixed term for wagon leasing. RCA has the option to extend this term up to six times, potentially extending the lease arrangement until 2032. The initial call-off includes 120 Sgns and/or Sgnss wagons leased until 2027.
This arrangement provides Rail Cargo Austria with a structured approach to managing its freight wagon fleet, ensuring access to intermodal wagons while maintaining operational flexibility. Earlier in 2023, MFD has already provided large amount of wagons to RCA, used for the growing demand in transports via the Mobiler system.
