The Hamburg-based wagon leasing and logistics company informed employees at the site during an internal event.

VTG will close its maintenance workshop for intermodal rail freight wagons in Großräschen, Germany, on December 31, 2026.

The Großräschen workshop began operations in 2024 after being planned and built during a period of higher demand in the intermodal market. VTG said the site has not reached the utilization levels or economic outlook required for continued operation under current and foreseeable market conditions.

The closure will affect employment relationships at the Großräschen site. VTG did not state the number of employees concerned.

Maintenance of VTG’s rail freight wagon fleet will continue through the company’s European workshop network and external partners.
