Rhenus Group has acquired its first rail-connected intermodal terminal in Kazakhstan, strengthening its inland logistics footprint in Central Asia and along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
The facility provides container depot services, bonded storage and block train handling, with direct access to national and international rail corridors linking Central Asia with China and Europe. Operations at the terminal are carried out by Contargo Group, which acts as the operating partner.
According to Rhenus, the terminal increases container-handling capacity in southern Kazakhstan and supports import, export and transit flows. The site includes bonded warehousing for import cargo, an open bonded yard for container handling, and rail-based transhipment facilities. It is also equipped to transfer bulk cargo from wagons into containers.
Rhenus has been active in Kazakhstan since 1996, with freight forwarding operations in Almaty, Astana and Karaganda. The addition of the Bayserke terminal integrates rail-based terminal capacity into its existing forwarding network in the country.
The Almaty terminal is Rhenus’s second container terminal in Central Asia. In 2025, the group opened a joint rail-connected terminal with Uzbek Railways in Andijon, Uzbekistan.
