Eisenbahngesellschaft Ostfriesland-Oldenburg (e.g.o.o.) has presented its new Stadler EuroDual locomotive and initiated construction of a rail freight terminal in Goslar, underlining its operational expansion in Lower Saxony.
The new locomotive, carrying the name ZUGkunftsregion Harz, represents a step forward in e.g.o.o.’s fleet development. Equipped with dual-mode technology, the EuroDual can operate on both electrified and non-electrified routes. It supports the company’s service portfolio, which includes the transport of individual wagons, wagon groups, bulk cargo, and hazardous goods. The unit is powered by renewable electricity where overhead lines are available, with diesel operation reserved for last-mile access.
Simultaneously, e.g.o.o. has started work on a rail transhipment terminal located at the I.V.H. industrial park in Goslar. The terminal project, financed by the company’s owner Hermann Bettels, is planned to open in 2026. Once operational, it will provide rail-connected logistics solutions directly on-site, offering a new routing point for freight traffic in the region.
The investment is intended to create a logistics interface between local industries and national rail corridors. e.g.o.o. is positioning the Goslar location as an additional option for freight customers and railway undertakings seeking access to the Harz area through rail-based transport chains.
Originally founded to support the reactivation of the Abelitz–Aurich railway, e.g.o.o. has developed into an independent operator with its own rolling stock and operational management. Under the ownership of Hermann Bettels, the company has expanded its reach and capabilities through network extensions and collaborative partnerships.
With the EuroDual already operating across the German rail network and construction of the terminal underway, e.g.o.o. is setting up Goslar as a logistics base supporting its freight transport activities from 2026 onwards.
