Adif awards contract for modernisation of locomotives to a JV of 4 Spanish companies

Adif has awarded a contract valued at over € 62 million for the maintenance and modernisation of 43 locomotives operating in its logistics centres.

These locomotives, from the Adif Class 311, are used for shunting and last-mile services in freight terminals, as well as supporting railway infrastructure maintenance. The contract covers facilities across the North, Northwest, Northeast, and Central territorial areas.

El Mercantil reports that the works have been awarded to the newly formed joint venture made up of:

  • Ferrovías Astur - dealing with the manufacture, repair and maintenance of supplementary rolling stock
  • Invatra Alcázar – dedicated to transforming, repairing, rebuilding and modernizing all types of rolling stock
  • Siderúrgica Requena - dedicated since 1931 to carrying out repair, maintenance and transformation of railway material
  • Talleres Alegría - a company dedicated exclusively to the manufacture of railway material and equipment

The contract covers facilities across the North, Northwest, Northeast, and Central territorial areas.

The scope of the agreement includes system and component renewals aimed at extending the operational lifespan of these locomotives while maintaining their reliability and availability. Maintenance services are included for a five-year period to ensure continued operation.

Adif currently operates a fleet of 97 locomotives assigned to logistics centres, consisting of 43 from the Class 311 and 54 from the Class 310. In addition, it currently receives locomotives from and order for 29 from Stadler (Class 336).
