Introduction to railway industry in Slovakia
The first steam-powered line, from Bratislava to Vienna, opened on 20 August 1848. The modern Železnice Slovenskej republiky company was established in 1993 as a successor of the Československé státní drahy in Slovakia. Private operators entered the network in the early 2010s. Total rail length is 3 626 km. Track gauge is 1,435 mm.
