Once both machines are operational, they will together expand Bane NOR’s capability to maintain rail operations in Nordic winter conditions.

The Norwegian infrastructure manager Bane NOR is taking delivery of two high‑capacity Schmidt Beilhack HB 1100S snow‑clearing machines, the first of which is already under test in Norway while the second is being assembled in Germany.

The first HB 1100S machine, built in St. Blasien, Germany, was transported to Norway just over a year ago and has since entered an intensive test phase. With a clearing capacity of up to 10 000 tonnes per hour, it is being evaluated under extreme winter conditions.

Construction of the second unit is presently underway in the assembly hall at St. Blasien. Completion is scheduled for November 2025, followed by a testing period in Germany, with shipment to Norway targeted for December. According to project documentation, the experience gained from the first machine has been used to optimise processes for the second unit, with additional time allotted for testing to reduce downtime during deployment.
