The collaboration aims to integrate ATMS with ETCS Level 2 standards, focusing on improving the safety, efficiency and overall competitiveness of rail transport across the country.

Wabtec Corporation has agreed with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to advance the interoperability of Australia's rail systems, a key component in modernizing the national rail network. The partnership focuses on the development and implementation of digital solutions that will bridge the Advanced Train Management System (ATMS) with the European Rail Traffic Management System (ETCS) Level 2.

The collaboration aims to create a standardized approach that integrates both systems, enhancing the safety, efficiency, and competitive edge of rail operations across Australia. Wabtec's role in this project leverages its extensive experience in the rail industry, notably its success in implementing safety-critical train control solutions across the vast freight network in the United States. The project will provide ARTC with the necessary software, systems, and services to transform Australia’s freight rail network, covering approximately 8,500km.

Nalin Jain, President of Digital Intelligence at Wabtec, remarked on the project's scope: “This project will be a key building block that enables ARTC to transform Australia’s freight rail network.”  In addition, the interoperability of the system will enable the integration of digital locomotive solutions, such as energy management and scheduling optimization technologies, that are currently being used in Australian rail operations.

Wendy McMillan, Wabtec's Senior Regional Vice President for South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, praised ARTC's innovative approach to using the ATMS to advance Australia's freight rail industry. With Wabtec's robust expertise and digital technology portfolio, this project will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of Australia's rail system and positively contribute to the country's overall supply chain efficiency.
