Northrail has ordered six additional Vectron Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility under an existing framework agreement. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
The locomotives will be equipped with ETCS, PZB, MIREL and SHP train control systems and are initially planned for operation in Germany and Austria. They will feature a flexible Eastern European country package, allowing additional national systems to be activated from 2028/2029.
The locomotives will also be prepared for passenger services through equipment to supply electric power to passenger coaches.
Northrail currently has 43 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives in its fleet and has previously ordered a further 23 units of the same type. With the latest order, the leasing company states it remains the largest lessor of Vectron Dual Mode locomotives in Europe.
