PESA has delivered its 100th vehicle to České dráhy under current contracts, marking a key milestone in the renewal of regional diesel fleets in the Czech Republic.

PESA has handed over its 100th vehicle for České dráhy (ČD), marking a significant milestone in the ongoing renewal of regional rolling stock for the Czech national operator.

The delivery took place this week at PESA’s plant in Bydgoszcz and reflects the current phase of fleet modernisation centred on Class 847 RegioFox diesel multiple units. These trains are being introduced on non-electrified regional lines, where ČD is gradually replacing older vehicles with newer, lower-emission units.

According to the companies, 90 RegioFox units are already in service in the Czech Republic. Since deliveries began, the fleet has accumulated around 10 million kilometres in operation. The framework agreement allows for up to 160 vehicles, with 106 units already in production.

Krzysztof Zdziarski, CEO of PESA Bydgoszcz, said the milestone confirms the manufacturer’s operational delivery capability on a demanding market. He noted that the combination of 100 produced vehicles, 90 already in service and around 10 million kilometres of operation shows that the company is delivering a proven product. He also said PESA is strengthening its footprint in the Czech market through its Prague office and preparations for a future service centre.

For ČD, the milestone is part of a wider programme to modernise regional transport. Michal Krapinec, CEO and Chairman of the Board of ČD, said the RegioFox fleet is helping improve travel quality on non-electrified lines by introducing features such as step-free access, air conditioning and onboard services now expected by passengers. He also highlighted that the Rolls-Royce engines can operate on HVO fuel.

The current programme follows an earlier phase of cooperation between the two companies, when PESA supplied 31 Link units, known in Czech service as RegioShark. ČD says the new deliveries build on that experience and support its effort to maintain rail’s role in everyday mobility outside the country’s electrified core network.

PESA also points to the Czech projects as a reference for further expansion in Europe. Solutions developed in cooperation with Czech operators are now being applied in other markets, including recent regional and inter-regional deliveries for Romania. At the same time, the manufacturer is expanding its Czech presence through PESA Česká republika, which supports local cooperation and technical backing for the delivered fleet.
