The largest customer is Sweden’s Railcare Group, which has received 14 locomotives through AC Finance. In Norway, TrainPoint Norway owns five locomotives and will receive another five around the turn of 2025 and 2026. The full contract with TrainPoint Norway is valued at approximately EUR 72 million.
All locomotives for the Scandinavian market are approved for use in both Sweden and Norway. They are equipped with remote-control systems allowing the driver to operate the locomotive from outside the cab, a function required in Swedish industrial sidings. The vehicles are also fitted with ETCS for interoperability across the European network.
To meet Nordic requirements, CZ LOKO adapted the braking and oil systems and made changes to control software. The approval process in Sweden included a full winter testing phase, during which the locomotives operated in sub-zero temperatures, with local certification authorities requiring compliance with stricter environmental and technical standards compared to those in the Czech Republic.
All new deliveries include alcohol immobilisers, which prevent engine start-up if alcohol is detected in the driver’s breath. This system will also be retrofitted to earlier deliveries.
Currently, 22 EffiShunter 1000 locomotives are in service in Sweden. Ten more are scheduled for delivery in 2026. CZ LOKO is also considering setting up a service branch in Sweden to provide local maintenance support.
