After completing a testing period between 2019 and 2022 in Austria, the GB25RS bogies are now being subjected to extended operational tests in Poland and Germany.

Previously installed by Greenbrier Europe on Sggrrs wagons, these bogies demonstrated increased intervals between wheel reprofiling due to their radial wheel-set arrangement, especially on narrow-radius tracks.

The ongoing tests will be conducted using BOX E06A wagons in regular operational service. The main objective is to evaluate wheel wear of the GB25RS bogies compared directly with the standard Y25 bogies under identical xoperating conditions.

A variety of sensors will measure and document the wagons' operational characteristics. These include wheel displacement, acceleration of both wagon and bogie, load status (loaded or empty), and braking frequency. Environmental parameters such as humidity and temperature will also be continuously collected. Additionally, GPS tracking enables the monitoring of real-time speed, position, mileage, and route-specific data. All collected information is transmitted via 4G/LTE to the data analysis facility in Świdnica, Poland.

GB25RS bogies are equipped with updated friction dampers incorporating elastomer components, intended to maintain operational stability and accurate axle alignment through track curves via radial steering technology.

The GB25RS bogie supports axle loads up to 25 tonnes, maintaining a mass comparable to the widely used Y25 bogies, which have a maximum axle load of 22.5 tonnes.
