With ongoing deliveries, these vehicles are gradually replacing older rolling stock in various regions, contributing to the modernization of the Czech Republic’s regional rail services.

The deployment of new RegioFox diesel multiple units (DMUs) in the Czech railway network is set to continue in 2025, with 21 additional units scheduled for delivery. These units will primarily enter service in the Hradec Králové and Central Bohemian regions, while other refurbished rolling stock will be introduced in various locations.

Following the introduction of 56 RegioFox units last year, the fleet will be expanded with 11 more units for operations in Hradec Králové and surrounding areas. By the end of the year, the region is expected to have 26 units in operation, replacing older rolling stock. Seven additional units are scheduled for delivery in 2026. The new PESA DMUs are planned for deployment on routes connecting Hradec Králové with Doudleby nad Orlicí, Rokytnice v Orlických horách, and Letohrad. Operations on these routes will involve coupling two units for selected services, similar to current express connections to Trutnov, Svoboda nad Úpou, Náchod, and Broumov.

In Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, eight RegioFox units will be introduced, increasing the local fleet to 18 units. These trains will be maintained at the Rakovník depot. Additionally, deliveries for the Plzeň Region are expected to be completed this year with the arrival of two remaining units.

Alongside these new DMUs, České dráhy is also deploying additional Stadler RegioShuttle RS1 units, known as RegioSpider in the national operator’s fleet. Seven refurbished units are planned for the Central Bohemian Region and two for the Ústí nad Labem Region by the end of the year. These vehicles, originally sourced from Germany, have undergone modifications, including interior adjustments and, in some cases, the installation of air conditioning. Standard features now include onboard Wi-Fi and power sockets.

In Central Bohemia, the RegioSpider units will serve the Benešov regional network, operating on routes from Benešov u Prahy to Vlašim, Sedlčany, and Tábor. They are set to replace older class 810 and 814 DMUs and will be maintained at the Tábor depot. Two additional RegioShuttle RS1 units are scheduled to be delivered in early 2026.

In the Ústí nad Labem Region, the new units will supplement the existing fleet of the same type. They are planned for service on the U21 Roudnice nad Labem – Bříza obec and U22 Vraňany – Straškov – Bříza obec routes.

The RegioFox and RegioSpider DMUs are equipped for modern regional operations, featuring low-floor accessibility, climate control, and passenger information systems. The RegioFox units are powered by Rolls-Royce engines capable of running on HVO fuel, while the RegioShuttle RS1 models feature two engines with a combined power output exceeding 500 kW. The latter have a top speed of 120 km/h and a seating capacity of approximately 70, depending on configuration.
