Cargounit and PESA have signed a contract for the delivery of 10 electric locomotives with a commuter engine, along with an option to supply a further 20 locomotives. The first 20 Gama Marathon locomotives are expected to be delivered to the CEE locomotive rental market company by the end of December next year.

The Gama Marathon is an electric locomotive with a commuter module. Powered by an additional, modern, and environmentally friendly engine, the generator enables the locomotive to move on sections without a catenary. This additional drive, which is used and appreciated by haulers, is mainly intended for shunting work and makes it possible to run a freight train of 3,200 tonnes on an incline of up to seven per mille. It is also useful in emergencies, allowing the train to be brought to its destination despite a sudden power cut in the network.

"We chose locomotives with a commuter module from PESA because they fit our customers' needs perfectly. A single locomotive that can run trainsets in electric traction and then, using the same locomotive, carry out shunting work at ports or terminals is a solution that not only reduces costs but also saves time and increases the efficiency of transport. Last but not least, it is an environmentally friendly solution, as the use of a modern electric locomotive with a Stage V emission-compliant shunting module at the end of the line means a reduction in CO2 emissions," - said Łukasz Boroń, CARGOUNIT CEO.

"The Marathon 111Ed30 range is the latest version of our shunting locomotives with a commuter engine. We have used a new, environmentally friendly internal combustion engine in them, while at the same time increasing the power output of the unit relative to our previous developments," - emphasized Piotr Rościszewski, PESA Bydgoszcz Locomotive, and Wagon Market Sales Manager.

The portfolio of new vehicles offered by PESA will include multisystem locomotives, dual-mode locomotives, and electric commuter locomotives. PESA is also developing a hydrogen shunting locomotive project; in addition to the SM42-6Dn, it is also working on a new hydrogen cell-powered locomotive to respond to demand from freight and intermodal carriers operating, among others, in 'green ports' and intermodal terminals striving for zero-emission.

CARGOUNIT is the largest Polish locomotive rental company in Central and Eastern Europe. CARGOUNIT has 185 locomotives for hire, both traction, and shunting. It offers a wide range of rolling stock, including modern multi-system locomotives for international traffic. CARGOUNIT also has electric multiple units for passenger transport.
