This order is a follow-up to a contract signed in 2017, which included an option for additional vehicles.

The Swiss railway operator Lausanne-Echallens-Bercher (LEB) has announced an order for four additional Be 4/8 multiple unit trains from Stadler for its meter-gauge network. The first six trains of the same type were delivered in 2019 and have been operational since then. Like their predecessors, the new multiple units will be manufactured at Stadler's facility in Bussnang, Switzerland.

LEB and Stadler have agreed on the delivery of these four new three-section multiple units for the narrow-gauge line (1000 mm), aiming to expand public transport services in the Lausanne and Gros-de-Vaud regions. The new units will be authorized for operation as four-car trainsets, allowing for future expansion by adding an extra intermediate car to increase transport capacity.

This decision of LEB to order additional vehicles is part of its efforts to improve the public transport capacity and accessibility. The expansion is expected to contribute to the operator's goal of offering a 10-minute service frequency between Echallens and Lausanne during peak times by 2030.

The Be 4/8 multiple units are described as modern, comfortable commuter trains with over 60% low-floor area, facilitating easy access and rapid passenger exchange. Each train is equipped with four sliding plug doors per end car and features a multi-purpose area designed for strollers and bicycles. Accessibility is further supported by dedicated spaces for passengers with limited mobility located in the end cars. These vehicles, measuring 44.8 meters in length, provide 106 seats and can reach speeds up to 90 kilometers per hour. Additionally, the new trains will be fitted with environmentally friendly air conditioning systems, using a sustainable refrigerant.
