Grupo RAS, a multinational logistics company, has announced an agreement with Wabtec Corporation for the purchase of three C23EMP locomotives. This transaction not only marks Grupo RAS' entry into the Uruguayan rail market but also underscores the company's strategic initiative to integrate rail transportation into its comprehensive logistics solutions.

The C23EMP locomotives, to be manufactured at Wabtec's facility in Contagem, Brazil, are designed for light-axle-load operations and feature fuel-efficient, electronically fuel-injected 12-cylinder FDL engines.

This order also allows us to expand our presence in Uruguay, where we have a longstanding history, and further solidify our commitment to the Latin American market,” commented Danilo Miyasato, President and Regional Leader of Wabtec for Latin America.
Scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025, these locomotives are expected to kick-start Grupo RAS's rail operations in line with efforts to revitalize Uruguay's national rail network. Grupo RAS plans to operate rail services through three subsidiaries, focusing on Route 5 and other key national routes. The expansion promises seamless rail access from the strategic port of Montevideo and its adjacent industrial park.
