CRRC has started the deployment of the FXN5C diesel locomotive, developed by CRRC Qishuyan, as it started its inaugural journey from Yuci North Station to Wuxiang Station. The locomotive pulled a freight train weighing 4,176 tons, showcasing its capacity for significant load transportation.
The FXN5C locomotive has the R12V280ZJ diesel engine - a product of CRRC Qishuyan with a power output of 3.5 MW. It has an axle load of 25 tons and can reach speeds up to 120 km/h. Its starting traction force of 580kN and a continuous traction force of 540kN are an improvement to previous models.
In terms of environmental considerations, the FXN5C locomotive presents improvements in fuel efficiency and emissions. Its fuel consumption rate stands at 198 g/kWh, which represents a reduction of over 13% compared to similar models under equivalent operational conditions. Furthermore, it complies with EPA Tier 3 emission standards, positioning it as a competitive option both domestically and internationally for replacing older diesel locomotives.
Another feature of the FXN5C is its integrated diesel engine PHM (fault prediction and health management system), which facilitates comprehensive operational monitoring. This system contributes to the locomotive's maintenance by leveraging data analytics for predictive and health management purposes.
The FXN5C model is expected to increase the capacity and efficiency of freight transportation on the Taijiao Railway, particularly in the context of the Shanxi Coal Sinotransport Channel.
