Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ), the state railway company of Ukraine, has announced the completion of its first domestically-built grain wagon, designed to be compatible with both the 1,520 mm track gauge used in Ukraine and the 1,435 mm standard track prevalent in the European Union.
Most components and materials used to construct this grain wagon are sourced from Ukraine. The design and production of this vehicle align with efforts to increase export volumes by developing border infrastructure and upgrading the railway's rolling stock in both quantity and quality.

The wagon is tailored to meet the specific requirements and dimensions of both Ukrainian and EU infrastructure. The company plans to commence serial production of these wagons.
The newly developed hopper wagon, designated as model 19-8005-U, is intended for transporting grain and other bulk food cargo. Its design optimally balances volume and weight, considering the specific needs of agricultural product transport. With a carrying capacity of 70 tons and a body volume of 104 cubic meters, the wagon features five loading and six unloading hatches and is designed to travel up to 120 km/h.
This advancement in rolling stock is expected to reduce logistics costs and simplify the process of coordinating international railway transportation, as the new grain car meets the infrastructure requirements of EU countries. This initiative should help Ukrzaliznytsia to adapt to international standards and enhance the efficiency of its export-oriented transport operations.
