Damage is estimated to be at least CZK 150 million (over €6 million). The accident did not restrict the operation of passenger trains in Česká Třebová or on the main Prague-Olomouc corridor. Freight trains passing through Česká Třebová use the route via the transport station.
According to the zdopravy.cz website, the driver of the IDS Cargo freight train missed a signal to stop the train.
The oncoming train hit the rear of the moving train. The locomotive and 15 wagons derailed as the train entered the station. Another two wagons were derailed by the oncoming train and two by the adjacent train. "It was like dominoes," Jan Kučera, general inspector of the Railway Inspectorate, told the Czech News Agency.
The 30-year-old driver of the moving train was injured and taken to hospital by paramedics, police said. He managed to jump from the locomotive before the collision. The 39-year-old driver of the other train was not injured. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol, police spokeswoman Andrea Muzikantová told the Czech News Agency. "We are at the scene investigating the circumstances of the collision," she added.
