The service, which had been scheduled to start in spring 2026, was a joint project involving RDC Deutschland Gruppe and SBB. Without the start-up funding, the train will not enter operation.
The proposal aimed to introduce a cross-border night train linking Switzerland, Germany, and Sweden via Copenhagen. It was expected to operate three times per week in both directions. The funding request had been based on provisions under Swiss climate legislation, with the Federal Office of Transport having previously signalled conditional support.
Following the decision, RDC Deutschland Gruppe confirmed that the project will not be implemented. The company stated that the withdrawal of the subsidy ends the possibility of launching the service as planned. The night train had been presented as part of efforts to expand sustainable long-distance mobility options between Central and Northern Europe.
