The fixed order is agreed for 26 EMUs with an option for 4 additional ones.

On February 29, 2024, a significant contract was signed by the Silesian Voivodeship with Newag for the supply of modern train sets to Koleje Śląskie, amounting to 300 million EUR. The contract includes the delivery of 26 four-car Impuls II electric multiple units (EMUs), with an option to purchase an additional 4 sets, alongside maintenance services. The first Impuls II train is scheduled to hit the Silesian tracks by mid-2026.

These trains are designed for regional passenger traffic, capable of speeds up to 160 km/h. This move comes as part of a broader initiative to enhance railway infrastructure and services in the region, following a recent investment in technical support facilities by the Silesian Railways.

The new trains, to be supplied by Newag, are being introduced as part of efforts to improve the quality of regional transportation. They will be equipped to accommodate passengers with disabilities, including induction loops for the hearing impaired, and will feature family zones with educational motifs, board games or interactive screens, as well as the capacity to transport at least six bicycles.

This procurement is part of a broader strategy to enhance sustainable transportation within the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. It coincides with the launch of a pilot program on March 1, integrating ticket systems across the GZM, Silesian Railways, and Polregio, aimed at simplifying public transport usage within the region.
