ŽFBiH advises freight clients and passengers to seek alternative transportation until the necessary repairs are completed.

Rail traffic on the Sarajevo-Čapljina-Sarajevo line has been halted following severe weather conditions affecting large parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 3rd and 4th, 2024. The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Railways (ŽFBiH) reports substantial damage to the railway infrastructure along the 17-kilometer Ostrožac-Grabovica section, leading to the suspension of all passenger and freight services on the route.

The most affected area is near Donja Jablanica, specifically at the Komadinovo Vrelo site, where heavy rainfall triggered a landslide. This event severely damaged several culverts, causing a 200-meter stretch of track to hang unsupported. ŽFBiH technical teams are on-site assessing the extent of the damage.

Given the scale of destruction, ŽFBiH has informed the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications. They have requested assistance for restoration efforts, as the damage exceeds the railway’s capacity to resolve independently. Support from the relevant government bodies has been discussed, with plans for immediate action to repair the damaged sections and restore traffic as soon as possible.
