Trade fairs are a business signing time, and this year’s most extensive railway exhibition in Poland, TRAKO, which is currently ongoing in Gdansk, is no different. Two international players in locomotive leasing that have expanded their presence in Poland over the past years have announced new deals.
Railpool – five locomotives for two customers
German Railpool signed an agreement with Alstom for 27 (+15 in option) new AC3 and DC3 TRAXX locomotives earlier this year. The direct current version is suitable for Italy and Poland. And in Poland, we will soon see these locomotives with a new customer. Alza Cargo will lease three TRAXX DC3 locomotives with a last-mile module.
After a short-term leasing of an Alstom TRAXX MS2 locomotive from Railpool this year, Ost-West Logistics Polska signed a deal with Railpool to lease two Siemens Mobility Vectron MS locomotives in 2024. Railpool has 158 Vectrons in ownership or on order, and recently, it has received locomotive 193 139, which was the 1250th Vectron made. It was leased to KombiRail Europe.
Akiem – two new customers for six 311D locomotives
French Akiem is leasing out its 311D diesel locomotives to new customers. Twenty of the former M62 diesel locomotives, modernised by Newag, were leased to DB Cargo Polska, CTL Logistics, or Colas Rail Poland in the past. Now, some of them will get new lessees.
The first one is TKP Silesia, which leases two of these locomotives for transporting raw materials from the Silesia region in Poland towards Czechia. Four more 311D locomotives will go to Laude Smart Intermodal and circulate in the heart of Poland.
