Based on an expanded cooperation agreement between Transnet Freight Rail and Caminhos De Ferros De Mocambique, more seamless trains will flow from chromite-rich deposits of South Africa to the port of Maputo in Mozambique.

The world’s largest chromite deposits in the Bushveld Complex in South Africa and other mineral deposits of the Mpumalanga and Limpopo regions will benefit from the new extended agreement between the two railway companies in Africa. From 1.9.2023, three daily trains operate seamlessly, connecting the mining sites with the closest seaport, the Maputo Terminal de Carvão da Matola (TCM).

The agreement between Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and Caminhos De Ferros De Mocambique (CFM) that started in April 2023 already brought an increase of 23% in magnetite volumes. Additional trains in this operation mode are expected to add 230,000 tons to be transported by rail.
