The newly-formed Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Class I railroad in North America has revealed the livery that will be applied to its locomotives. At the same time, a new link between Mexico, Texas and the US Southeast was created.

In a long-anticipated move, CPKC’s formation is the major news in Class I railroads in North America. Not only did the two smallest players merge, but they also created a seamless connection between Canada, US, and Mexico by a single railroad. It’s time to unify the fleet and work on more connections.

Along with the new logo, CPKC had to devise a solution for changing the livery of its locomotive fleet. The result was revealed at the end of June, creating a red front known from CP and a rear end known from the colors of KCS – yellow and black. This is rather an aesthetic and marketing move, yet the company is working hard to interconnect its network further.

On 28 June 2023, cooperation among CPKC, Genessee & Wyoming (G&W) and CSX was announced, creating a new interchange connection in Alabama. To create a new freight corridor from Mexico via Texas to the U.S. Southeast, both CPKC and CSX partially acquired G&W’s Meridian & Bigbee Railroad. The railroad will keep its short line operations between Linden, Alabama and Meridian, Mississippi while enabling a fast connection for mostly intermodal and automotive traffic from Mexico and Texas directly to the Southeast of the United States.
