The wagon fleet provided for RCG will be improved and made ready to use for the RCG’s MOBILER technology. This enables a flexible combination of road and rail transport by using wagon platforms that can be loaded directly from trucks without the necessity of transloading equipment or siding.
Based on a new Waste Management Act in Austria, obliging companies to transport waste loads heavier than 10 tonnes over a distance of over 300 km by rail rather than trucks, RCG implemented a new rail logistics concept to meet the expected demand. A first example is the transport of up to 12,000 tonnes of sewage sludge from Vorarlberg to Lower Austria, using the MOBILER technology. In this case, truck transports are transloaded in Klaus and for the main leg of the journey, wagons are included in wagonload traffic to Vienna. There they are further distributed by trucks to various recycling facilities.
MFD Rail’s new wagons will help RCG fulfil the Waste Management Act, as wagonload traffic is well established in Austria and supported by the government.
MFD Rail’s fleet consists of only intermodal wagons of the Sdggmrs(s), Sggmrs(s), Sggns(s), Sgns(s), and Sgmmns(s) types. For the MOBILER use, RCG uses the Sggmrrss-y wagon types, with the „y“ meaning the equipment of wagons with MOBILER metal sheets.
