The development follows CMA CGM’s earlier acquisitions in the logistics sector, including road and air freight firms. With this move, the company continues building its intermodal presence in the UK rail freight market

CMA CGM has announced the acquisition of Freightliner UK Intermodal Logistics from Genesee & Wyoming. The deal will transfer control of Freightliner’s UK intermodal division to the French logistics and shipping group, while US-based Genesee & Wyoming will retain its UK bulk freight and international operations.

Freightliner UK Intermodal operates a national network connecting key ports and inland terminals in the UK. In the past year, the company moved approximately 770,000 containers. The new owner, CMA CGM, plans to incorporate the operator into its CEVA Logistics division. The intermodal operator is expected to continue functioning independently, offering services to multiple clients.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is scheduled to close in early 2026.

The takeover adds to CMA CGM’s strategy of combining maritime transport with inland logistics. Freightliner UK Intermodal’s integration is aimed at aligning with the group's existing container shipping services and expanding its land-based supply chain operations in Europe.
