Stadler announces that the EURO9000 locomotive has obtained its type approval and authorisation for placing on the markets in Germany and Austria.

In the coming months, Europe's most powerful locomotive will also be approved for operation in Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy.

The powerful EURO9000 multi-system locomotive can operate on both AC and DC electrified lines. Its modular design facilitates the installation of up to three different propulsion systems (electric, diesel and/or battery), allowing it to operate on non-electrified lines. It is capable of running at high speed on the main mixed traffic European corridors and in many cases allows longer and heavier trains to be hauled by a single locomotive.

Designed to operate on international routes along the main European rail corridors, it complies with the Technical Specifications for Interoperability and is compatible with several country packages, including conventional automatic train control and ETCS.
