Mars Logistics, responsible for operating the intermodal service, will transport production parts from Ford Otosan’s suppliers in Turkey to the Mars Halkalı Train Terminal before forwarding them to Craiova.

A new intermodal transport link has been established between Ford Otosan’s Craiova factory in Romania and Turkey, with Mars Logistics managing operations. The service is expected to provide four round trips per week between Craiova and Istanbul Halkalı, supporting the transport of production parts from Turkey to Romania and finished vehicles in the opposite direction.

The intermodal link is projected to handle approximately 12,000 vehicles annually. Compared to road transport, the shift to rail is estimated to reduce emissions by 63%. The connection is part of Ford Otosan’s logistics adjustments following its acquisition of the Craiova factory in 2022, aligning with the company’s efforts to expand its European production network.

Ford Otosan sources vehicle components from Turkish suppliers operating in Romania and partners with more than 60 suppliers in Turkey. The service will be carried out using wagons owned by Mars Logistics and locomotives provided by Pars Railway Company.
