Transfesa Logistics has taken delivery of the first 10 of the 200 car-carrying wagons to be purchased with the help of EU Next Generation funding. This delivery marks an important step in the development of the UIC gauge Mediterranean Corridor. It is one of the largest rail investment projects in Spain today.
These new wagons, which are already in service, will contribute to an increase in the modal share of rail freight transport through a reduction in CO2 emissions and the promotion of a more sustainable and efficient transport model. In the coming months, the company will take delivery of the remaining 190 latest-generation double wagons. These wagons are suitable for running on international gauge (UIC).
Each wagon has a height-adjustable upper floor that can accommodate different types of vehicles from the origin to the destination of each route. Moreover, its load capacity, both height and weight, allows the wagon to carry large vehicles such as vans or small trucks, as well as electric cars.
The project, funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU, aligns with the MITMS initiative to support sustainable and digital transport, which aims to promote the acquisition or adaptation of wagons for freight transport on the General Interest Railway Network (RFIG).
