The investment aims to increase the share of rail in the domestic transport of grain to 60% and to support agricultural producers.

LTG Cargo has purchased 500 wagons for the transport of grain. Some of the wagons will arrive in Lithuania during this year's grain transport season. The new wagons will allow LTG Cargo to significantly increase its freight transport capacity. This is expected to result in an additional 1.2 million tonnes of freight per year.

"Because of the growing market demand, we have planned to increase the volume of grain transported domestically by rail to 60% of the total grain transport. Therefore, the newly acquired wagons will enable us to consistently increase the volume of grain transported. Renewing our equipment is also important for our customers in the agricultural production sector," said Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.

The first wagons are due to arrive in Lithuania in the next few months, with the remaining 300 wagons of the first phase arriving by the end of this year. A further 200 wagons will be delivered in the first quarter of 2025.

The renewed wagon fleet will primarily be used for the growing domestic and Klaipėda Sea Port freight traffic, given the growing market demand for efficient and sustainable grain transport in the country. Grain transport currently accounts for around 13-14% of the total freight volume and is growing steadily every year.

LTG Cargo purchased all the railcars from Ukrainian producers, strengthening the cooperation between Ukrainian producers and the LTG Group, not only to support Ukraine in fighting against Russian aggression but also to secure an alternative which were disrupted by the Russian war.
