MRS Logística has signed a long-term agreement with CSN Cimentos, extending through 2041, to bring the Marechal Hermes Multimodal Terminal back into operation. This partnership includes refurbishing 75 tank wagons specifically for cement transport, aiming to streamline and boost cement logistics in the region.
By revitalization of the Marechal Hermes terminal, MRS Logística improves the operational efficiency and reliability in freight transport. By restoring the facility and its wagons, MRS Logística and CSN Cimentos aim for a steady and dependable supply chain for cement, addressing the demands of both local and broader markets.
New Cargo Terminal Planned for Belo Horizonte
In an earlier development from April 2024, MRS Logística and the City of Belo Horizonte entered into a commitment to build the Horto Multimodal Terminal in the Boa Vista neighborhood. Supported by a EUR 8.6 million investment, the project is expected to generate around 250 jobs during its construction and operational phases.
Located at Rua Luiz da Nóbrega, the terminal will cover 20,000 square meters and is designed to handle up to 60,000 tons of cargo monthly. It will feature advanced storage facilities, gantry cranes, and areas for efficient cargo exchange between railways. The terminal's development is also set to include improvements in surrounding infrastructure, such as the expansion of Avenida Tereza Cristina and a new railway viaduct, anticipated to be completed 16 months earlier than initially planned.
Projected to open in 2025, the Horto Terminal is expected to significantly reduce road traffic by cutting down approximately 5,600 truck trips annually in the metropolitan area. This reduction aligns with broader goals of improving urban mobility and minimizing environmental impact through decreased CO² emissions.
The new terminal will enhance the logistics capabilities for steel products, including coils, plates, and wire rod. Additionally, it is poised to stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and fostering potential new business opportunities.
