ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has won a significant new contract to handle tens of thousands of tonnes of steel annually for Marcegaglia Carbon Steel. The new contract marks a significant expansion of the long-standing relationship between the Italian steel processing giant and RCG.
This collaboration has seen RCG introduce a weekly block train service transporting pallets of steel strip from Piadena, Italy to the Gebrüder Weiss terminal in Wolfurt, Austria. This strategic route crosses the Brenner Pass and terminates at the BLUM plant in the Vorarlberg region. These steel strips are critical components in the manufacture of folding and hinge systems.
RCG oversees the entire journey and is responsible for the comprehensive logistics, including the initial and final legs of the journey and the main rail transit through Italy and Austria. Remarkably, this entire transport process is completed within a single day, demonstrating significant logistical efficiency.
The role of RCG in this operation is not limited to transport handling. Its expertise in managing millions of tonnes of high-quality steel and iron products each year is coupled with advanced planning and implementation of technologically advanced logistics solutions. RCG's bespoke rail logistics services ensure the safe and reliable delivery of steel and raw materials across Europe, playing a key role in maintaining the integrity of the supply chain for various manufacturing and processing industries.
