This follows the company's success in winning several public tenders in Estonia towards the end of last year, positioning it to play a significant role in the country’s freight transport market.
In November of last year, LDZ CARGO secured a public contract for transporting bio-based woodchips from Valga to Tapa Station for Enefit Power, an Estonian state-owned energy company. This contract involves the movement of approximately 100,000 tons of woodchips, expected to boost LDZ CARGO's market share in Estonian rail transport.
Additionally, at the end of 2023, another contract was awarded to LDZ CARGO by Enefit Power for the transportation of petroleum-derived from oil shale from Vaivara Station to Muuga Harbour station, which is anticipated to further increase the company's freight turnover in Estonia by around 60,000 tons.
Mārtiņš Pevko, a Member of the Board of LDZ CARGO, shared the company’s long-term vision of consolidating the Latvian and Estonian rail transport markets, aiming to establish LDZ CARGO as a regional carrier of significance. Plans for expansion into Lithuania are also underway, evidenced by a recent agreement with LTG INFRA for the use of Lithuanian public railway infrastructure. The company has already begun operations in Lithuania, marked by transporting railway tracks from the Port of Klaipėda to Tallinn for a RAIL BALTICA project. Pevko also mentioned offering pan-Baltic services to the Polish oil refinery ORLEN, which would involve transportation across the entire rail infrastructure of the Baltic countries.
LDZ CARGO commenced its transport services in Estonia in early 2023 after obtaining the necessary permits and opened a branch in June, which currently has a staff of 10.
