The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and Siemens Mobility GmbH announced at the UITP Congress in Barcelona that they will further intensify their cooperation to promote sustainability in rail transport.

By the UITP World Congresses in 2025 and 2027, new automation technologies will be developed and tested to increase capacity and reduce energy consumption in rail transport. The joint focus aims to make a concrete contribution to the sustainability goals set.

Fueled by the megatrends of urbanization, digitalization, globalization and changing demographics, the demand for mobility will continue to grow at a rapid pace, the joint statement said.

Siemens Mobility and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg emphasise: "If we are to achieve sustainability in the face of this growth, we must significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate climate change and resource scarcity. To this end, we must act together with determination and promote technology projects that enable decarbonisation, dematerialisation and reduction of resource consumption across the entire mobility value chain," they conclude in their collaboration statement.
