Alstom, leading a consortium with Rowad Modern Engineering and Concrete Plus, has signed four contracts with Egyptian National Railways to modernise two railway corridors in Egypt.

Alstom’s share of the contracts is around EUR 300m. The projects cover digital railway systems, telecommunications, power supply, civil works and track rehabilitation.

The 6th of October–Alexandria corridor accounts for EUR 550m of the total value, including around EUR 240m for Alstom. The works will be delivered in three implementation lots and are intended to cut full-route journey times by nearly 80 minutes.

The Belbes–10th of Ramadan project is valued at about EUR 140m, including around EUR 60m for Alstom. The line serves the eastern logistics corridor and improves rail access to the 10th of Ramadan industrial area.

The contracts are linked to Egypt’s programme to develop rail links between dry ports, industrial zones and seaports. Alstom said the modernisation works will increase capacity, operational reliability and safety on the corridors.
