The new entity will operate bulk commodity services using its own locomotives and wagons under long-term contracts, starting on Queensland’s narrow-gauge network.

Australian Martinus Group has launched a new rail freight business, Martinus Haulage, and signed a partnership agreement with CRRC Ziyang.

CRRC Ziyang will supply the locomotives for the operation. The companies have also agreed on an ongoing supply arrangement covering future fleet requirements.

This takes Martinus beyond rail infrastructure construction into above-rail operations. The group has previously delivered rail projects for government clients and operated under a develop–design–build–own–operate–maintain model.

Martinus said it is assessing expansion into other Australian networks as well as North America and Chile.
