The certification applies across its rail freight activities in Germany and confirms compliance with the international standard for environmental management systems.

Captrain Deutschland Group received ISO 14001:2015 certification on 11 February 2026, covering all freight-operating railway undertakings within the group.

ISO 14001 defines requirements for establishing, implementing and continuously improving environmental management systems. It includes the identification and control of environmental aspects, compliance with environmental legislation, waste and emissions reduction measures, and defined environmental objectives subject to regular review.

According to Captrain Deutschland, the certification provides documented proof of environmental compliance and addresses customer requirements for certified environmental management in rail logistics contracts.

The group is expanding the use of hybrid locomotives on partially electrified routes to replace diesel traction where overhead lines are unavailable. It is also retrofitting older rolling stock with updated technologies and deploying shunting robots in place of diesel-powered shunting locomotives in selected operations.

Captrain Deutschland is also developing logistics concepts for smaller consignments that would otherwise be transported by road.
