Czech national carrier České dráhy (ČD) has launched two public tenders for battery electric multiple units (BEMU), covering up to 120 trains for regional passenger services. The framework contracts aim to support zero-emission operation on partially electrified routes.

ČD has announced two public procurement procedures for battery electric multiple units, seeking suppliers for up to 40 BEMU130 and up to 80 BEMU135 trainsets. The dual-power units, capable of operating both under overhead lines and on battery power, are intended for regional passenger services commissioned by Czech regions 26-01-14-TZ_soutez BEMU.

The tenders are designed as multi-round negotiated procedures with prior publication, including qualification stages and subsequent negotiations on technical solutions and contractual terms. ČD guarantees the purchase of an initial 13 units — seven BEMU130 and six BEMU135 — with further deliveries depending on regional demand. The framework agreements also cover spare parts supply and options for full-service maintenance.

Both train types are specified as partially low-floor dual-voltage units (3 kV DC / 25 kV AC), with minimum seating capacities of 121 and 140 passengers respectively. Maximum operating speed is set at 160 km/h under catenary and 120 km/h in battery mode. The trains will be equipped with ETCS, GSM-R, onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, modern passenger information systems, and space for bicycles and prams, aligning with requirements of the TRANSGOV funding programme.

The tender timeline has not yet been disclosed. Further details are expected to be published as the procurement process progresses.
