PKP SA concluded 2024 with a net loss of €73 million, primarily due to a €105 million write-down of the value of shares in its subsidiary PKP Cargo.

Simultaneously, the company generated revenue from its core business of €251 million, with almost 78% of this total derived from property leasing and rental.

Write-down on PKP Cargo main reason for losses

The financial result of PKP SA was most affected by the revaluation of its shares in PKP Cargo, which is currently undergoing restructuring. The write-down amounted to €105 million.

The loss on core operations amounted to €26 million, which represents a deterioration of €12.7 million compared to the previous year. Concurrently, the company generated a profit from other operating activities of €23 million, marking an increase of €6 million year-on-year.

Leasing and rental as the main source of revenue

In 2024, PKP SA's core revenue amounted to €251 million, with leasing and rental activities generating €195 million, accounting for 77.7% of the total. This amount included revenue from fees for access to passenger station service infrastructure, totalling €23.5 million.

The second largest revenue stream was utilities, generating €21 million, followed by housing management with €14.3 million.

Investments in station modernization

PKP SA allocated €77.7 million for capital expenditure in 2024, of which €64 million was earmarked for the modernisation of railway stations. The company financed €47 million of these expenditures itself, with the remainder coming from the state budget and EU funds.
