Germany: Massive disruption expected to all rail services on Monday

According to the union, the first effects from striking staff are already possible on Sunday evening. Also on Tuesday, numerous trains will still be cancelled due to strike action.

On Monday, Germany will experience a nationwide rail strike as a result of a dispute between the railway union EVG and Deutsche Bahn. The strike is expected to cause major disruptions to travel plans, as trains will be cancelled or delayed throughout the country. The railway union is demanding better working conditions and higher pay for its members, while Deutsche Bahn argues that the demands are unreasonable and would be too costly to implement.

The railway union has stated that the strike will affect all railway operations, including freight transport, and has called on its members to participate in the strike in order to put pressure on Deutsche Bahn to meet its demands.

This could have a significant impact on industries that rely on rail freight for transportation of goods, such as manufacturing and logistics companies.

DB Cargo announced that the company would do everything in its power to minimise the impact of the strike through constant communication and close cooperation with customers. Above all, it is important that the supply of power stations, seaports, refineries and other key industries is guaranteed, they said.

The strike is also expected to affect both regional and long-distance trains, with many commuters and travelers having to find alternative means of transportation. Deutsche Bahn has advised passengers to check the latest information on its website. The railway union has apologized in advance for the inconvenience caused by the strike, but argues that it is necessary to achieve their demands.

This is not the first time that Germany has experienced a rail strike. In recent years, the country has seen several strikes by railway workers, with many causing significant disruptions to travel plans. The strikes are usually called by the railway union, which represents around 160,000 railway workers in Germany, and are aimed at pressuring Deutsche Bahn to improve working conditions and pay for its members.
