Mozambique Railways (CFM) and the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) have officially signed two operational agreements enabling CFM to operate locomotives within Zimbabwean territory.
The new agreements apply specifically to two key rail corridors linking Mozambique and Zimbabwe: the Southern Corridor, covering the 148-kilometer stretch from Chicualacuala to Rutenga, and the Central Corridor, spanning the 84 kilometers between Machipanda and Nyazura.
Under the terms, CFM commits to supplying operational locomotives in appropriate condition, crews for operations within Zimbabwe, and necessary fuel and consumables to support at least two round-trip operations daily. NRZ is responsible for providing adequate cargo volumes and maintaining track infrastructure, enabling safe operations of CFM locomotives within Zimbabwe's rail network.
