New hires also reached record levels, with 6.200 new workers, including 685 apprentices. In addition, around 1.000 Arverio employees were taken on.
These new people balance out retirements and fluctuation and lead to a slight growth: the number of employees in the group, including apprentices, rose to almost 47.500 – an increase of 5.4% compared to 2023.
ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä comments: "More and more people don't just want to be passengers, they want to work with us to shape the mobility of tomorrow. ÖBB jobs are attractive because they are secure and future-proof. And we are happy to take on many people – according to the motto: those who can do something go to the railways."
The continued high demand for new workers is also necessary to meet staffing needs in the coming years. By 2030, the baby boomer generation will be retiring, and around 4.100 new employees will be sought each year, ÖBB predicts.
