Alstom reports EUR 4.3 billion in Q3 2024 orders and EUR 4.7 billion sales for 2024/25 fiscal year

The order intake reflects a 21.9% decrease year-on-year, aligning with the ongoing shift in the company's portfolio and external conditions.

In the third quarter of the 2024/25 fiscal year, Alstom recorded €4.3 billion in orders and €4.7 billion in sales, marking a 7.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

For the first nine months of the fiscal year, Alstom achieved a total order intake of €15.2 billion, up from €13.9 billion during the same period last year. Sales during this time reached €13.4 billion, representing a 5.3% rise on a reported basis, with organic growth contributing 6.9%. The company’s backlog was valued at €94.7 billion as of December 31, 2024, offering visibility into future operations​​.

Regional and product overview

In Europe, which accounted for 64% of the third-quarter order intake, notable orders included €760 million from undisclosed customers for long-term maintenance and supply agreements, and €520 million for 35 additional RER NG trains for SNCF Voyageurs on the Île-de-France network.

In the Americas, new contracts included a $515 million (€490 million) agreement with Metrolink for operations and maintenance services in California and a €218 million renewal for the automated people mover system at Denver International Airport​.

Sales of rolling stock increased to €6.97 billion over nine months, supported by project execution in Australia, France, and Italy. Services sales reached €3.26 billion, with contributions from projects in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States​​.

Financial outlook

For the full fiscal year, Alstom maintains a book-to-bill ratio above 1 and projects around 5% organic sales growth. Adjusted EBIT margin is expected to remain around 6.5%, with free cash flow estimated between €300 million and €500 million. Key production targets include rolling stock output of approximately 4,300 to 4,400 cars​​.

Alstom continues to focus on aligning its portfolio and operational efficiency to navigate the current market dynamics. While challenges in supply chain and execution persist, the company remains concentrated on meeting its fiscal objectives for 2024/25​.
