Alstom has appointed Rob Whyte as Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, effective February. A veteran of over 30 years with the company, Whyte previously served as Managing Director in the Nordics, where he achieved significant growth in business and projects. Whyte began his career as an apprentice in Alstom’s Transmission and Distribution division, where he held roles in both the private and public sectors. He has overseen the servicing of the Class 390 Pendolino fleet and led successful bids for the Nottingham Express Transit and Crossrail projects.
Whyte commented on his new role: "From starting my career with Alstom over three decades ago to leading this dynamic and talented team, I am excited to build on the organisation’s proud legacy of innovation and excellence in the rail industry. Together, we will continue to deliver efficient and low carbon solutions that transform transport across the UK and Ireland, and beyond.“
Alongside Whyte’s appointment, Andy Butters has been named Managing Director of Rolling Stock and Components for the UK and Ireland. Based at the historic Litchurch Lane Works in Derby, Butters will oversee the production of new trains for both domestic and export markets. With a background in engineering and project management, Butters has led the delivery of the Aventra Class 730 fleet and previously held the role of Site Projects Director.
